What does Rumpelstiltskin know that the miller’s daughter doesn’t? Everything. The old fairy tales aren’t just stories, they’re maps of magical thinking, and buried inside them is some of the most sophisticated folk magic ever recorded. The bargain is one of the oldest and most powerful magical acts a witch can perform, and our ancestors encoded everything they knew about it into the tales they told by firelight.

In this class we’ll crack open the magical logic of bargain folklore; crossroads tradition, the binding power of the spoken word, the terrifying importance of knowing the name and the terms of what you’re getting into. We’ll look at Rumpelstiltskin alongside other bargain tales from European folk tradition and pull out the real magical mechanics hiding inside them.

Then we’ll put that knowledge to work. Every participant will create a three-cord bargain cord in black, red, and white, one of the most ancient color triads in magical practice, and learn to tie their intentions, their offering, and their terms directly into the work. You’ll learn to charge and consecrate your cord with the knowledge of how to use bargain magic consciously, deliberately, and on your own terms.
