The modern, Christianized version of Goetia arises from the reinterpretation of the Greek Γοητεία, an essentially necromantic practice connected to the chthonic world, whose roots go back to the epic poems of Homer, and which became extremely widespread in Late Antiquity.

This lecture deals with the history, foundations, and various techniques of Γοητεία that survived in ancient records.
