Do you believe in the power of prophecy?

In Ancient Greece, the Oracle of Apollo at Delphi was famous for its Pythia, a Priestess who entered trance states and became the voice for the God of Prophecy Apollo whose words would be interpreted by Priests. Delphi was and remains the best-known Oracle, but it was by no means the only one!

In this session, we will explore a number of the other important Oracles from the ancient world - including Ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, and the Surrounds. While each of the Oracles had their own unique character, they were all first and foremost, places where people went to with the hope of having direct contact with their deities and with the yearning that the deity would convey knowledge to them which would somehow help them in their life or answer an important question.

We will ask: Who were the mortals who spoke for the Gods? Where did their knowledge and power come from? Could they be trusted?
