Antinous was a Greek youth who was deified by the Roman emperor Hadrian after Antinous drowned in Egypt and became the new god of the Roman Empire. He was a Hadrian's lover and even a city in his name called Antinopolis was built in honor of his new divinity. Many busts and statues was asked to be made in many parts of the Roman Empire. for the worship of his image. Antinous is modernally sometimes referred to as the “gay god” and is known to be the queer pagan god of homotheosis and the sacralization and divinization of trans and genderqueer bodies. His cult was revived by Antonius Subia in Los Angeles on October 2002 by creating the Temple of Antinous, or Ecclesia Antinoi, which became a religious organization and an official website for the formalization of the Modern Religion of Antinous, the Religio Antinoi.
