Defixiones are one of the most famous and widespread cursing techniques originating in the ancient Mediterranean cultures.
Class Highlights:
- The historical roots of this tradition
- The reconstruction of the ritual process
- The use of magical materia and unique technical solutions attested by the archaeological records
The class will include a guided activity through which participants will be able to create their own mock defixio (aimed at a fictional character) to better understand the process from a practitioner's perspective.
