A Livestream Class with John Opsopaus

Sunday, February 9 at 10:30 am in The Occult Library

Among fifteenth-century philosophers, George Gemistos had a secret: he was a practicing Neopagan who called himself Plethon and wanted to restore worship of the Greek gods in a universal Pagan religion based on Neoplatonic theology. He secretly practiced this religion with a small group of followers in a remote mountain stronghold in Greece. His ideas inspired Renaissance mages such as Marsilio Ficino, thus reviving ancient Pagan thought in Western Europe and awakening Hermetic and Neoplatonic spirituality and magic. In this talk, I will present an introduction to Plethon's religious rituals and spiritual ideas, as presented in my recent book, “The Secret Texts of Hellenic Polytheism: A Practical Guide to the Restored Pagan Religion of George Gemistos Plethon” (Llewellyn, 2022). It is based on and includes the first complete English translations of his texts that survived destruction by his Christian enemies.

What you will learn:

  • The nature of the gods, according to the most advanced Pagan theology that developed in the West.
  • Practical rituals for worshiping the gods, developed by an expert in ancient religion.
  • Invocations and hymns composed by Plethon for worshiping the gods.
  • A sacred calendar for organizing regular worship of the gods.

Come to learn a 600-year-old secret Pagan religion that has much to offer you now!
