A Livestream Class with Denny Sargent

A large number of those accused by the inquisition of being witches were also accused of being werewolves. If you are surprised, there is a reason: Shapeshifting. I have spent six years researching this topic and two published books were the result. In this presentation and workshop I will reveal the research, citations and revived practices of werewolf magic as well as the deep connection between Witches and Werewolfery.

It is shocking how common it was that people persecuted for witchcraft by the Church in old Europe were also often accused of being werewolves. About 50% of those accused of witchcraft were arrested and murdered, many burned alive. When researching my book Werewolf Magick I was focusing on the widespread werewolf cults from prehistoric times and discovered that Witches and Pagans who were persecuted were also wolf shapeshifters and executed for their confessions as such. As a witch, this really surprised me and, I have to say, delighted me. Further digging revealed that the surviving and suppressed ancient Pagan and Animist practices and beliefs embedded in old European folk magic were clearly remnants of pre-Christian ‘wer-wolf’ sorcery from Norse, Roman, Greek and Celtic practices. It seems that these Pagan beliefs merged and overlapped and later influenced many witch cults that were practicing shapeshifting and fetch craft
