Working with the Spirits of the Underground Railroad
A Livestream Class with Witchdoctor Utu
at in The Arcane Chamber
The sacred Underground Railroad was a historic clandestine movement whose purpose was to aid freedom seekers escaping the slave system of the southern United States. This unique tapestry comprised men and women who were white, black, rich, poor, Christian, Jewish, African, Spiritualist, and free-thinking atheist, uniting Canada and the United States in the fight against human bondage.
Among its supporters and those who escaped along its trails existed a vast spiritual formulary, with traditions ranging from African animism to Christianity, European and Arabic occult mysteries to Native American and Spiritualist practices. These were utilized by freedom seekers and abolitionist supporters alike, and several combinations cross-pollinated into mysterious new forms, some of which still exist today.
The magic of the Underground Railroad is accessible to all, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or spiritual tradition. It can help a person grow in their own practice among a tradition and spirit world open to all. Witchdoctor Utu, author and educator on the spirituality of the Underground Railroad, will lead this class, sharing and encouraging attendees to explore these magics and keep alive traditions that remain poignant to today's societal landscape.
In this class you will learn:
- The differences between voodoo, Spiritualist, Christian, and conjure traditions within the Underground Railroad
- Sigils and conjure symbols to work with and honour the Underground Railroad spirit world
- The elevated spirits of the Underground Railroad, including Harriet “Mama Moses” Tubman, “Captain” John Brown, and “Mistress” Mary Ellen Pleasant, and how to work with and honour them
