Learn about Sheila-na-Gigs, Matrikas, and Green Men from the British Isles and worldwide. Then create your own! A Sheila (Sile, Sheela) is a carving of a woman with genitalia exposed, often found on old church ruins. Is she a Pagan fertility figure or a Christian representation of lust? A Matrika (Venus, Goddess figurine) is a small, ancient carven or sculpted female figure which may represent a Goddess. Many of them were found in Mainland Europe and are thousands of years old. A Green Man (foliate face) is a figure sculpted or carved onto a building, which may have been a fertility deity. We’ll discuss the history of these icons, show some of them, talk about how they’re used for magick, and show you how to make your own.
