The remnants of the Graeco-Egyptian Magickal tradition are a synthesis of the magick practised by the Sumerians, Babylonians, Egyptians, Greeks, Hebrews and Christians. In addition there were miscellaneous religious references, which transcended national borders, including Zoroastrianism, Mithraism, Gnosticism, Neo-Platonism, Hermeticism and Serapism.
The tradition is best preserved in the Greek Magical Papyri [PGM], which contain spells, hymns, consecrations, divinations and ritual instructions which date back to between the 2nd century BCE and the 5th century CE.
