Throughout history, paranormal encounters have often been accompanied by mysterious and unexplained scents. Witnesses frequently report the fragrance of perfume, tobacco smoke, roses, incense, or even the odor of decay appearing suddenly with no identifiable source. These experiences—often referred to as phantom fragrances or paranormal olfactory phenomena—have been documented in hauntings, Spiritualist séances, religious visions, and modern paranormal investigations.

In this workshop, we will explore the phenomenon of ghostly aromas through historical accounts, folklore, and contemporary reports from paranormal investigators. Together, we will consider how scent has been associated with spirits and supernatural manifestations across cultures, why certain fragrances appear repeatedly in haunting narratives, and what investigators should take into account when encountering unexplained odors during an investigation.

We will also look at possible explanations for these experiences, including environmental influences, neurological responses, psychological triggers, and spiritual interpretations. By examining scent through both paranormal and scientific perspectives, this workshop invites us to reconsider the often-overlooked role of smell as a potential indicator in paranormal encounters.
