André Consciência, Dr. H. c. in Literature and Ph.D. in Metaphysics, lives in Alentejo, Portugal. A devoted practitioner of Franz Bardon’s hermetic system since his youth, he joined the Fraternitas Hermetica while still a minor and has maintained a 20-year initiatory relationship with his original teacher—even after the order’s dissolution. His extensive magical experience spans AMORC, the Order of Michael’s Grail (rooted in the work of Dion Fortune), the Thelemic Golden Dawn, and Astrum Argentum.

In addition to his hermetic path, André teaches neo-shamanism and leads an active group of practitioners. He uses shamanic frameworks as accessible tools to reach newcomers to esotericism, while continuing his deeper initiatory work. He remains an Inner Council member of the Horus Maat Lodge and a member of the OTOA-LCN. He also teaches a complete online curriculum guiding students from the basics of magic to adepthood through Perseus Arcane Academy and his own school, The School of Visionary Hermeticism.

A prolific author, poet, playwright, and musician, André is the founder of CIA.Mefisteatro, a theatrical company through which he explores the intersection of ritual, myth, and performance. His published works include poetry, fiction, translation, and esoteric nonfiction. Highlights include:

His fiction was featured in The Worlds of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror, edited by Robert N. Stephenson.

As a contributor to Silver Star: A Journal of New Magick, SilkMilk, Abismo Humano, and Mallarmargens, André’s work spans magical, literary, and philosophical genres. He has been a regular contributor to Tumzantorum (ZosHouse), Sabbatica, and Qliphoth.

In 2010, he initiated a therapy program blending creative writing and shamanic performance, sparking his career as a performance artist. His plays—such as Tongue of Fire, Twilight Circus, Rumpelstiltskin, Iomik and the Book Tree, The Beating of the Thresholds and Sapho’s Bone—integrate music, dance, and esoteric storytelling. His 2017 release, A Summer In Our Mouths (Abismo Humano), is a semi-autobiographical novel through a solar metaphysical lens.

Beyond his artistic and esoteric work, André serves as president of three cultural associations, co-founded Star Lore Publishing (a publisher of occult fiction), and was a ghostwriter and content strategist for Fractal Mind Lda., a gamification company focused on social innovation. He is an art professor at the school Dra Judite Andrade.
